Biographical and Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Counselling and Psychotherapy offer a safe and confidential space to explore and address emotional, psychological and mental health challenges.
At Encounter Wellness, counselling is holistic, creative and takes into account that a person is working with their ‘body, soul and spirit’. It recognises that improvements in mental health can often lead to improvements in physical health and vice versa. Approaches vary depending on an individual’s needs, capacities, interests and goals.
In addition to being heard and engaging in therapeutic conversations, a person’s counselling process may include, for example: increasing awareness of bodily stress responses; breathing, calming and relaxation techniques; strategies to increase self-care and healthy daily rhythms; movement; life story work; artistic activities; literature; music; role play; specific trauma processing and much more. Or it may be appropriate to engage solely in talking therapy throughout.
Whilst an initial focus is often on processing feelings, thoughts and actions to improve current situations in practical terms, the counselling also offers a person an opportunity to make sense of difficulties and symptoms within the context of their biography so far. Reflecting on and integrating important life events and meetings, crises and challenges, can enable a person to build on their capacities; strengths; resilience and gifts - to develop a stronger sense of Self along with new meaning and purpose moving forwards.
