Renate McGavin

Craft Group Co-ordinator

Renate was born in Berlin. She trained as a kindergarten teacher and as a social worker. On marrying an English doctor, she travelled from London to Cape Town in a Land Rover. There she worked in rural Zululand for two years as a hospital laboratory assistant.

Renate has raised five children. She qualified as a Waldorf teacher in London and worked in the Canterbury Steiner School. She has a qualification in bereavement counselling and has extensive experience running craft workshops for people living with mental health challenges: she facilitates the transformative potential that participants offer each other in building skills, confidence and social re-integration.

During Covid Renate volunteered at Dandelion Time, a charity in Kent supporting families suffering trauma, through active involvement in animal care, baking and farming. She now leads our therapeutic craft group.
